Myth 1 – Only Microsoft, SAP and Oracle are provider of ERP solution
It is true, they are leading provider of Global ERP Solution however most company have understood that their process can be mapped well by local solution catering to their geography and business segments there are numerous ERP Vendors providing the software that might be less complicated, with limited feature and low of client budget.
Myth 2 – ERPs are expensive suite, used by only Large Organizations
Large organization understand the benefit associated with such type of software solution hence there is lot of penetration, however it won’t be correct to say that, it is only used by them, ERP solution comes in different packages based on the customer requirements. The price totally depends on level of functional requirements and customization efforts. In addition, there are open source based ERP solutions available in market they do not incur licensing costs but can hurt you on customization and support cost etc.
Myth 3 – I don’t need ERP, my Excel can solve my business problems
Microsoft Excel is useful application. However, it cannot match with the rich functionality offering of ERP, like Excel file being corrupted, no control on data modification, not compliant with international business standards and best business practices. Maybe your organization is small but still you compromised on availability of data, timeline and scope of misuse when relying solely on excel for business operation.
Myth 4 – It takes years to implement ERP solution
If you have a complicated customization (Non- standard requirement) or your business scope is vast, it takes times to implement. However, it is very subjective to the functionality, complexity and scope – Global ERP tend to have longer implementation cycle whereas in-house ERP with standard functionality can be delivered within a month…!!
Myth 5 – After ERP implementation, I will have no control over my company data
ERP system data is stored in backend database(s), depending on solution you are looking for. If security is your major concern look for an on-premise hosted solution where data is stored on your company server rather than cloud solution.
Latest and advanced technologies offers much higher security features to make data safe with ERP software than the password protected excel file.
